Our CSA Member Program
Participating in our 2020 CSA
(Community Supported Agriculture)
Thank you for your interest in East Brook Community Farm’s 2020 CSA! Our CSA members are the foundation of our farm. Member support ensures our viability from season to season, and creates lasting relationships that strengthen our community. In return, we provide our members with weekly or every-other-week shares of abundant vegetables, herbs, and flowers, which we grow with practices that go beyond organic standards. We also host potlucks, workshops, and other farm gatherings for our CSA members during the season.
We often have an over-abundance of many veggies (tomatoes, cucumbers, squash), so if you wish to experiment with food preservation, our CSA is a great opportunity to can, dry, ferment, freeze or otherwise preserve this surplus. We strive to give you more than your $$ value in produce over the season as a big thank you for your advanced support. We have previously hosted fermenting workshops on the farm and are happy to host workshops on other preservation techniques if there’s interest among our CSA members.
Additional farm products including eggs, lacto-fermented vegetables (Kim Chi! Sauerkraut!), and herbal products are also available during the CSA pickup for an additional cost. We recommended arranging ahead of time by email for these items.
Farm Share Options
From spring through fall, each share picked up from the farm consists of 8-12 different items, and varies according to seasonal availability. Folks picking up at the farm also get to pick your own herbs and flowers when available! You box up your own share from the options we provide in our farm stand.
This is the share for you if you enjoy coming out to the farm, like when we choose your veggies for you, and are excited to get take-what-you-wish quantities of bumper crops like tomatoes, cucumbers, and greens.
Andes Share Options
Pick up a pre-packed box of 8-12 of our seasonal items on Sundays from Wild Common Wine in downtown Andes.
This is the share for you if you live out Andes way and you'd often like to pick up a bottle of wine for the week while you're there too!
Market Share Options
We are at both the Walton and Franklin Farmers Markets throughout the summer. Each week, members who pick up at market get to choose any 10 items plus an herb or flower from our abundant display.
This is the share for you if you like to choose which veggies you take home each week. You can take more than one of many items or avoid vegetables you don't like. We encourage you to arrive at market early, as things might be in limited supply or may sell out during the market.
Full Season Farm Share
(Farm or Andes Pickup)
(24 weeks, June 5th -
November 13th 2020)
The suggested full season price of a share is $725 per household. Over the 24-week season (June to mid-November 2019), the cost averages $30 for each weekly pick-up.
(9 weeks, July - August 2020)
For folks who spend just the summer in Delaware County, we offer a summer-only share: 9 weeks over July and August 2019. The cost of the summer share is $315.
(8 weeks August - Sept. 2020)
For folks who are excited about the late summer vegetables we likely have in excess during August and September. The cost of the Bounty share is $280. You’ll be picking up shares during our heaviest producing months and we’ll likely have many take-what-you-wish options when you pick up at the farm. These are the months for tomatoes and squash and cucumbers out of our eyeballs.
Covid-19 and our Farm
As a farm, we are an essential service, and regardless of the governmental response to this pandemic, we are confident that we will continue to grow vegetables for ourselves, our CSA members, and our wider community in Delaware County throughout this upcoming season.
We do not know what the season will bring, but know that we will be utilizing recommended food safety methods, and are commiting to remaining flexible in order to fulfill our side of the CSA share bargain.
The possible changes we anticipate:
All shares may be pre-boxed to reduce possible avenues of contamination.
Members picking up at the farm might be asked to schedule a staggered pick-up time
to avoid many folks arriving at once.
Markets might be cancelled. If that's the case, our market share pick-up folks will have pre-boxed shares delivered, or we will designate a central place and time to pick-up your share.
Our monthly potlucks are cancelled for the foreseeable future, but Cicada plans on hosting a livestreamed Facebook workshop each month, with possible Zoom workshops to be introduced as she figures that program out. Email us with workshop interests.
We are also aware that people in the area are seeking ways to feel more food secure by shopping from local farmers and staying out of grocery stores. We currently have a limited supply of eggs, sauerkraut, kim chi, onions, potatoes, and garlic that you can order by phone, email, or facebook message and pick-up from the farm. The farmstand is also currently stocked with eggs as we have them and the lacto-ferments. Let us know if there are other ways you think we could help you and the community during this difficult time.
Full Franklin Market Share
(19 weeks, June 5 -
October 11 2020)
The suggested Franklin Market share is $600 per household. Over the 19 week market season, the cost averages $31 for each weekly pick-up. In June, many of our members select flower and veggie seedlings and perennial starts from our market display as items.
Full Walton Market Share
(17 weeks, July - September 2020)
The suggested price for picking up in Walton the 13 weeks of the market is $410. This averages to $31 for each week.
(12 weeks June 5th -
November 6th 2020)
For folks who only need a share every other week, have a smaller family, or find vegetables going to waste in the fridge, this is the share for you! You'll pick up 8-12 items every-other-week at the farm, Wild Common Wine, or a market. You'll be sure to get an email reminder from us for the weeks you pick up so won't forget. The suggested price for the Every-Other-Week share is $370.
Flexible Payment Options
*Now Accepting SNAP/EBT*
We understand that how families spend their food dollars is very important – everybody must make choices! Because of this, we offer a sliding scale. This option is for those families and individuals for whom the suggested amount of $725 for a Full Season Share or $315 for a Summer Share, etc. doesn’t sit well with their food budget. This means our members can still support us, but with an amount that their particular food budget allows. We also accept payment plans, work-trade, and *new to 2019* SNAP payments. We are committed to growing for everyone in the local community who wants to become a member, and feel that a CSA share cost shouldn’t be prohibitive to anyone who desires healthy, sustainable, local foods.
Our Invitation for your Non-Financial Contribution
We invite all our members to be involved with East Brook beyond just picking up your CSA share. In our shared history of running CSAs, we have learned that members benefit from the extended connection when participating at the farm in other ways beyond their financial support. Your involvement is the Community part of CSA!
There are many ways we encourage you to participate: at our regular work-parties, by helping organize members’ events like potlucks and workshops, or by working from home on our website, marketing, and other projects. If you have other ideas and skills, please let us know what you’d be interested in offering.
