Call for Farmers

92 acre established farm property

seeks new farm manager(s)

East Brook Community Farm is a collectively owned farm in Walton, NY, founded in 2015. Our farm manager (and last remaining farmer) is stepping down, and we’re looking for experienced farm management to establish their own farm business here. Build on 10 years of work we’ve put into this land, community, and business, while developing your own enterprise (or moving your existing one). Options include leasing with openness to co-ownership.

Farm History / Who We Are

  • We've operated as a worker cooperative for most of the last decade.

  • The property is owned collectively. Some members wish to be bought out, some wish to remain.

  • Farmers developed a no-till market garden, distributing produce through several channels including a CSA program, local farmers markets and restaurants, a food hub, and mutual aid sites in the Bronx.

  • Currently, Rachael (Farm Manager), Sarah (Farm Founder), and Theresa (Legal/Finance Manager) are caring for the property as we seek a new round of land stewards.

What we're offering

  • 3 acres of deer fenced farmland. Within this space:

    • 1 acre market garden, well maintained for low weed pressure and prime soil health

    • 20 x 48 greenhouse, currently used as a nursery and curing space

    • 30 x 96 hoophouse for in-ground growing

    • Covered wash station and equipment storage space

    • 1+ acres of pasture (was primarily used for raising meat birds)

  • Use of farming equipment, from seed trays and shovels to BCS walk-behind tractor and farm truck

  • Capacity to support livestock programs and/or crop expansion, if desired: 10+ acres of pasture (mostly unfenced), some fencing equipment, barn for overwintering animals

  • 1880s farmhouse with 7 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, kitchen, laundry

  • 1000 sq foot 3-season building with kitchen and event space

  • Insulated electrified shed with 2 bedrooms

  • Large barn with walk-in cooler, ample storage, workshop space, refurbished milk house used as CSA pickup and farmstand

  • E-list and other customer information

  • Introductions to local and regional farming communities

  • Mentorship support / knowledge transfer

Who You Are

  • A farmer or group of farmers who:

    • are up for the challenge of establishing a profitable farm operation, or moving your existing operation here. We define profitable as able to contribute to the operational expenses of the property. This is not a continuation of EBCF - this is your entity!

    • bring a combination of farming and business experience. This is not a good fit for someone who is new to both farming and business.

    • can share space in the farmhouse with others, or already have your own local housing.

    • are open to regular events hosted on site, including multi-day events.

Nuts and Bolts

  •  operations can begin as early as Spring 2026. If seeking housing, can move in earlier.

  • We see multiple financial arrangements possible, depending on the number of farmers involved, housing requirements, use of major equipment, etc. Options include leasing with openness for co-ownership.

  • We are committed to working with incoming farmer(s) and farm service organizations such as CADE to ensure that we develop a robust, transparent, and mutually beneficial arrangement.
